Zyloprim may also be prescribed for other uses.
What is the most important to know about Zyloprim (Allopurinol)?
Avoid using Zyloprim if you have a history of severe allergy to this medication. You should stop using this medication and contact your doctor at first signs of skin rash, even if it is very mild. Take your dose of Zyloprim with a full glass of liquid. If your doctor does not tell you otherwise, you are recommended to drink 8 to 10 full glasses of liquid daily in order to reduce the risk of kidney stones forming.
Zyloprim (Allopurinol) can reduce the blood cells needed to fight infections in your body. This can lead to easier getting ill or bleeding in case of an injury. Your doctor will need to test your blood regularly to ensure that your blood cells do not get too low. It is important for you not to miss any scheduled visits.
Do not drink alcohol while using Zyloprim because it can worsen your condition. Zyloprim can affect the way you think or react. Take caution if you are driving or doing any other activity requiring attention.
How should Zyloprim (Allopurinol) be used?

What side effects can Zyloprim (Allopurinol) cause?
Seek emergency medical attention if you have an allergy to Zyloprim (trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat). You should stop taking Zyloprim and call your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following serious conditions:- easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
- the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild;
- seizure (convulsions);
- fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
- bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;
- urinating less than usual or not at all;
- pain or bleeding when you urinate; or
- fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms.

- increased sweating;
- dizziness or drowsiness; or
- diarrhea, vomiting, nausea.
Zyloprim (Allopurinol) may also cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any uncommon or painful side effects.
