What is Zestril (Lisinopril)?
Zestril is an ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor.
The medication is prescribed for treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), congestive heart failure, and for better survival after a heart attack.
The medication may also be prescribed for other uses.
What is the most important to know about Zestril (Lisinopril)?
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are going to become pregnant. Birth defects can occur in baby whose mother used Zestril during pregnancy. Choose an effective method of birth control. If you become pregnant while using this medicine, stop taking Zestril (Lisinopril) and inform your doctor promptly,
Do not drink alcohol while using Zestril, it can lower your blood pressure and worsen some of adverse reactions of the medication. You should not take salt substitutes or potassium supplements while using Zestril if your doctor does not tell you otherwise.
You may become dehydrated if you have heavy sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. This can make blood pressure too low and cause electrolyte disorders, or kidney failure. You should drink enough liquid every day while using Zestril (Lisinopril).
How should Zestril (Lisinopril) be used?
Follow the prescriptions of your doctor and the instructions which come with the medication carefully. Do not change your dose and do not use Zestril for a longer period than prescribed.
Your doctor may need to adjust your dose to ensure you are getting the most benefit from using Zestril.
Take your dose of Zestril (Lisinopril) with a full glass of liquid.
You may take Zestril with or without meal.

If you are going to have any type of surgery, inform your doctor in advance that you are using Zestril. It may be necessary to stop taking the medication for some period of time.
If you are using Zestril (Lisinopril) to treat high blood pressure, do not stop taking it even if your condition improves. You may have high blood pressure without feeling any symptoms.
Keep the medicine at room temperature protected from heat and moisture.
What side effects can Zestril (Lisinopril) cause?Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms of allergy: trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following serious conditions:
- tired feeling, muscle weakness, and pounding or uneven heartbeats;
- swelling, rapid weight gain;
- chest pain;
- urinating more or less than usual, or not at all;
- feeling light-headed, fainting; or
- fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms.
- feeling depressed;
- mild skin itching or rash;
- vomiting, upset stomach; nausea, diarrhea;
- dizziness, headache, drowsiness; or
Zestril (Lisinopril) may also cause other side effects. Talk with your doctor if you need information about them.
