Gabapentin is basically used for the stabilizing the electrical activity of the brain. During epilepsy the electrical activity of brain is disordered which leads to sudden and abrupt discharge of increased electrical signals. This results in abnormal movement of muscle and excessive secretion from glands in the body. Brain and nerves are made up of cells known as neurons. Latter connect each other through electrical signals transferred by neurotransmitters. These electrical signals are responsible for all activities-voluntary or involuntary in the body. Rapid and sudden electric signals are released from the brain into the body. There will be epileptic attack when brain becomes over stimulated and the normal function is disturbed. The final consequence will be seizures or fits in the patient. Gabapentin can help brain electric signal to become normal. Neurontin (Gabapentin) will prevent the excessive electrical discharge from the brain. It will mimic the naturally occurring neurotransmitters known as GABA. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals synthesized in brain and nerve cells through which signals are sort to the neurons GABA or Gama amino butyric acid is a neurotransmitter which calms the electrical activity in the brain.
