What is Lexapro (Escitalopram)?
Lexapro represents an antidepressant of SSRI group (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). This drug influences brain’s chemicals that could be unbalanced and became a reason of discomposure and depression state.
The purpose of Lexapro is a treatment of anxiety in adults as well as major depressive disorder in teenagers older twelve years and adults.

Lexapro (Escitalopram): Information You Need to Know.
It is forbidden to take Lexapro simultaneously with MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) group drugs for example phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), isocarboxazid (Marplan), rasagiline (Azilect). The period between usage of MAOI group drugs and Lexapro should be no shorter than 14 days. It means that you have to wait 2 weeks after you stop taking Lexapro before you begin taking MAOI preparation and vice a versa: you must wait 2 weeks after stopping an MAOI before you start take Lexapro.
Taking an antidepressant for the first time may cause suicide intentions in you. Especially it is applicable to persons under 24 years old. For sure, at least the first 3 months of taking Lexapro should be under your doctor’s control. Don’t forget about regular visits.
If you start feeling some unusual or worsening symptoms for example state of anxiety, sudden changes of your behavior or mood, sleep disorder, panic attacks then immediately consult your doctor. another reasons to call your doctor at once are: you became more depressed, impulsive, excited, aggressive, quick-tempered, hyperactive (both mentally or physically), belligerent, restless as well as when you think about committing suicide or injure yourself. Taking SSRI antidepressants during pregnancy can be followed by serious or even life-threatening lung problems in newborn children. However, abrupt stoppage of taking your antidepressant because of pregnancy may cause a recidivate of depression state. If you became pregnant while taking Lexapro or you plan to become a mother please discuss it with your doctor and don’t stop contact with your medication without doctor’s permission.
How to take Lexapro properly?

Each dose of Lexapro should be followed by a full glass of water.
Taking the Lexapro at the same time of a day is preferable. Keep the guide on drug’s prescription label strictly.
Do not use a regular table spoon while measuring correct dose of the medicine. Use a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup to be sure you take the correct dose. If a dose-measuring device is not available, ask your doctor for one.
You need some period (maybe 4 weeks or longer) from starting take a Lexapro to better feeling. Do not stop taking the medication without discussing it with your doctor. Remember that abrupt stoppage may cause unpleasant side effects. Room temperature, keeping away from moisture and heat are suitable storage conditions for Lexapro.
Side effects of Lexapro.
If you have such symptoms of an allergic reaction as hives; skin rash; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat or difficulty breathing immediately call to emergency and get first medical aid.
Immediately contact your doctor if you start feeling some unusual or worsening symptoms for example state of anxiety, sudden changes of your behavior or mood, sleep disorder, panic attacks or if you became more depressed, impulsive, excited, aggressive, quick-tempered, hyperactive (both mentally or physically), belligerent, restless as well as when you think about committing suicide or injure yourself.If you feel another serious side effects listed below you must urgently contact your doctor:
- headache, difficulties with concentration, memory problems, torpidity, clouded consciousness or its loss, hallucinations, paroxysm, problems with breathing and its stoppage;
- sickness, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, trouble with coordination and feeling unsteady;
- high fever, sweating, tremors, abnormal muscles (very stiff or rigid), quick heart beating or arrhythmia and reinforced reflexes.
- trouble sleeping (insomnia);
- mild nausea, meteorism, epigastric burning, upset stomach, coprostasis;
- decreased sexual desire, impotence, problems with an orgasm; or
- yawning, dry mouth, ears-ringing;
- some weight changes.
