What is Diflucan?
Diflucan (fluconasole) is an antimycotiс antibiotic.
Diflucan is prescribed for treatment of diseases provoked by fungus which can affect any organ, including throat, blood, lungs, genital area, bladder, esophagus, and mouth.
Diflucan can be also prescribed for prevention of fungal infection in people immunocompromised because of cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases such as AIDS.
What is important to know about Diflucan?
You should not take Diflucan if you have allergy to it or to any similar medication, for example clotrimazole (Lotrimin), econazole (Spectazole), ketoconazole (Nizoral), miconazole (Monistat), sertaconazole (Ertaczo), sulconazole (Exelderm), terconazole (Terazol), tioconazole (Vagistat-1), or voriconazole (Vfend). Avoid taking Diflucan if you are using cisapride (Propulsid) or terfenadine (Seldane).
Before starting to use Diflucan, inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, uneven heartbeat, or if you have ever had \"Long QT syndrome.
Do not stop using Diflucan earlier than prescribed. You can feel better before you treat your disease entirely. Diflucan is not effective for treatment of viral infections like influenza or cold.
How should Diflucan be taken?
Follow the prescriptions of your doctor and the instructions which come with the medication carefully. Do not change your dose and do not use Diflucan for a longer period than prescribed.
Your dose of Diflucan can differ depending on your disease. One pill is usually enough for treatment of vaginal infections. If you are treating other infections, you may need a double dose for the first time. Follow all the prescriptions of your doctor carefully. Let your doctor know if youк condition does not improve.
Take your dose of Diflucan with a full glass of liquid. Shake the bottle with liquid form of the medicine (oral suspension) just before measuring a dose. Do not use a table spoon to measure the dose of liquid form of Diflucan. If you do not have a special dose-measuring cup or spoon, ask your healthcare provider where you can get it.
Do not stop taking Diflucan earlier than prescribed. You may feel better before you treat your disease entirely. Diflucan is not effective for treatment of viral infections like influenza or cold.
Keep the Diflucan drugs at room temperature protected from moisture and heat. You may keep the liquid form of medication in refrigerator, but avoid freezing it. Discard any medication which is not used within 2 weeks.
What side effects can Diflucan cause?Get emergency medicine if you experience any of the following symptoms of allergic reaction: trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following serious conditions:
- seizure (convulsions);
- loss of appetite, stomach pain, clay-colored stools, nausea, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), low fever;
- chills, flu symptoms, fever, body aches;
- red skin rash, peeling, and severe blistering; or
- easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness.
- vomiting, mild nausea, upset stomach, or diarrhea;
- skin rash or itching;
- unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth; or
Diflucan may also cause other side effects. Inform your doctor if you have any uncommon or painful side effects.
