Call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any new or aggravating symptoms like: changes of mood or behavior, panics, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, impulsiveness, hostility, aggression, agitation, if you feel mentally or physically hyperactive, more depressed or restless or if you have thoughts of self-injury or suicide. Avoid drinking alcohol while using Desyrel (Trazodone). The medication can worsen the effects of alcohol which can be harmful. Desyrel (Trazodone) may affect the way you think or react. Be careful if you drive or do any other activity requiring attention. You should stop using Desyrel (Trazodone) and talk with your doctor immediately if you have a penis erection that is painful or lasting for more than 6 hours. This can be a side effect of the medication which can cause a severe condition treated only with surgery.
How should Desyrel (Trazodone) be used?
Follow the prescriptions of your doctor and the instructions which come with the medication carefully. Do not change your dose and do not use Desyrel (Trazodone) for a longer period than prescribed.
Your doctor may adjust your dose to ensure that you are getting the most benefit from treatment.
If you are using the Desyrel (Trazodone) brand of Desyrel (Trazodone), take it after meal. If you are using the Oleptro brand of Desyrel (Trazodone), take it on an empty stomach just before you go to bed if your doctor does not prescribes you other use. Swallow the sustained-action pill whole without crushing or chewing it. Your doctor may prescribe you to break the pill and take only half of it at one time. Follow the recommendations of your doctor. You may feel no result for 2 weeks or more. Do not stop taking the medicine, use it as prescribed and let your doctor know if your symptoms are present after 2 weeks of using Desyrel (Trazodone). If you stop taking Desyrel (Trazodone) suddenly, you may have undesirable side effects. Talk with your doctor about how to avoid these effects when you stop taking Desyrel (Trazodone). Keep Desyrel (Trazodone) at room temperature protected from heat, light and moisture.
What side effects can Desyrel (Trazodone) cause?
You should stop using Desyrel (Trazodone) and talk with your doctor immediately if you have a penis erection that is painful or lasting for more than 6 hours. This can be a side effect of the medication which can cause a severe condition which can be treated only with surgery. Seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction to Desyrel (Trazodone) (trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat).
Call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any new or aggravating symptoms like: changes of mood or behavior, panics, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, impulsiveness, hostility, aggression, agitation, if you feel mentally or physically hyperactive, more depressed or restless or if you have thoughts of self-injury or suicide.Call your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following serious conditions:
- headache, difficult concentrating, memory problems, weakness, loss of appetite, feeling unsteady, seizure, shallow breathing or breathing that stops;
- extreme mood swings, restlessness, or trouble sleping;
- chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
- easy bruising or bleeding;
- agitation, hallucinations, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination;
- dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeat; or
- very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, confusion, fast or irregular heartbeats, tremors, feeling like you might pass out.
- mild headache;
- blurred vision; or
