Prescribing Information for Cialis (Tadalafil):

What is Cialis (tadalafil)?

Cialis (tadalafil) is a muscle relaxer medicine that increases the blood flow to some parts of the body.

Cialis is prescribed for treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. Adcirca, another brand of tadalafil, is intended for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and improves exercise capacity in men and women.

The medication may also be prescribed for other uses.

What is important to know about Cialis (tadalafil)?

Avoid using Cialis if you have allergy to tadalafil, or if you are also taking a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems, such as nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket), or recreational drugs, for example amyl nitrate or nitrite (\"poppers\"). Using Ciales in combination with a nitrate can provoke a serious decrease in blood pressure which can lead to fainting, stroke, or heart attack.

You should stop using the medication and call your doctor immediately if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw. These symptoms may signify a severe side effect of the medication.

You should not take Cialis more often than once in 24 hours. Call your doctor or get emergency medical help if your erection is painful or lasts for more than 4 hours. A too long erection (priapism) can be harmful for the penis.

Cialis may cause decrease of blood current to the optic nerve of the eye that can cause unexpected vision loss. It has happened in some people who had already had heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, or who smoke or were elder then 50 years old. It is not known if it is Cialis that provokes vision loss.

You should stop using the medication and seek emergency medical attention if you suddenly lose vision.

How should Cialis (tadalafil) be used?

Follow the prescriptions of your doctor and the instructions which come with the medication carefully. Do not change your dose and do not use Cialis for a longer period than prescribed.

You may use Cialis with or without meal.

In common use, Cialis is taken only when it is needed, just before sexual activity. But in some cases, Cialis may be used daily, without taking in consideration if sexual activity is planned or not. Follow the recommendations of your doctor.

Cialis does not help to achieve an erection without sexual stimulation. Follow your doctor’s recommendations.

Avoid using Cialis for erectile dysfunction if you are using Adcirca for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Avoid using Cialis more often than once in 24 hours. If you use the medicine daily, you should use it at the same time every day. Call your doctor or get emergency medical help if your erection is painful or lasts for more than 4 hours. A too long erection (priapism) can be harmful for the penis.

Keep Cialis at room temperature protected from heat and moisture.

What side effects can Cialis (tadalafil) cause?

Seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction to Cialis (trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat). If you feel numbness, pain, or tingling in your arms, chest, neck, or jaw, or if you become dizzy or nauseated during sexual activity, stop and call your healthcare provider immediately as these symptoms may signify severe adverse reaction. Stop taking the medication and call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following conditions:
  • chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
  • penis erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer;
  • feeling light-headed, fainting;
  • ringing in your ears, or sudden hearing loss;
  • changes in vision or sudden vision loss;
  • irregular heartbeat;
  • shortness of breath, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet; or
  • seizure (convulsions).
Cialis may also cause less serious side effects:
  • diarrhea, upset stomach;
  • headache;
  • redness or warmth in your face, neck, or chest;
  • muscle pain, back pain;
  • memory problems; or
  • cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat.

Cialis (tadalafil) may also cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you need medical advice about them.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

As Cialis is taken when needed, you are unlikely to have a dosing schedule.

If you are using Cialis (tadalafil) daily and you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is close to your scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not change your dose to make up for a missed one.

In case of overdose:
