Before you start using Adalat, let your doctor know if you have kidney or liver problems (especially cirrhosis), coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, or digestive problems.
If you are going to have any type of surgery, inform your surgeon in advance that you are taking Adalat. It may be necessary for you to stop taking the medication for some time.
Some other medications can interact with Adalat. Let your doctor know about all the medicines you are using.
Talk with your doctor if you are going to stop using Adalat (Nifedipine). If you stop taking it quickly, your condition can worsen. High blood pression can have no signs. It may be necessary for you to take blood pressure medicines for all your life.
How should Adalat (Nifedipine) be taken?

The Adalat CC pill should be taken on an empty stomach, swallow the tablet whole without crushing, chewing or breaking it. If you break it, too much of medication can be released at once.
Talk with your doctor if you have a worsening vomiting or diarrhea or if you are sweating more than commonly. These problems can cause severely low blood pressure. What side effects can Adalat (Nifedipine) cause?You should seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms of allergy: trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following serious conditions:
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
- numbness or tingly feeling;
- feeling short of breath, swelling in your hands or feet;
- chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
- worsening angina;
- fast or pounding heartbeats; or
- feeling like you might pass out.
- mild rash or itching;
- nausea, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain;
- warmth, redness, or tingly feeling under your skin;
- headache, dizziness;
- sleep problems (insomnia);
- urinating more than usual;
- joint pain, leg cramps; or
- drowsiness, tired feeling.
Adalat (Nifedipine) may also cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you need information about them.
