What is Aciphex (Rabeprazole)?
Aciphex (rabeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor. It decreases the quantity of acid that stomach produces.
Aciphex is prescribed for treatment of signs of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other diseases connected with excessive stomach acid, for example Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It can also be prescribed to help to cure erosive esophagitis (esophagus problems provoked by stomach acid).
Acipex can also be combined with an antibiotic for prevention of gastric ulcer provoked by helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Aciphex (Rabeprazole) should not be used for fast relief of heartburn signs.
Aciphex can also be prescribed for other uses.
What is important to know about Aciphex (Rabeprazole)?
Do not take Aciphex if you have allergy to rabeprazole or any similar medication, for example lansoprazole (Prevacid), esomeprazole (Nexium), omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid), or pantoprazole (Protonix). Rabeprazole should not be used for fast relief of signs of heartburn.
Heartburn can be confused with the early signs of a heart attack. Get emergency medical help if you have sweating, nausea, chest pain or heavy feeling, general ill feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder.
For treatment of some diseases, you may need to combine Aciphex (Rabeprazole) with antibiotics. Follow the prescriptions of your doctor and instructions that come with the medicine. Do not use the medication in larger or smaller amounts, or in any other way than your doctor prescribes.
Do not stop using Aciphex (Rabeprazole) earlier than prescribed. You may feel better earlier than you treat your disease entirely.
How should Aciphex (Rabeprazole) be used?
Follow the prescriptions of your doctor and the instructions which come with the medication carefully. Do not change your dose and do not use Aciphex for a longer period than prescribed.
In its common use, Aciphex is taken for 4 to 8 weeks. If it is not enough, your doctor may prescribe you one more course.
If you have H. pylori infection, you may need only 1 week of treatment to improve your condition. Follow the recommendations of your doctor.
Take Aciphex (Rabeprazole) with a full glass of liquid.
You may take it with or without meal.
Swallow the Aciphex pill whole without breaking, crushing or chewing it. If you break it, too much medication can be released at once. Do not stop using Aciphex earlier than prescribed. You may feel better earlier than you treat your disease entirely. Inform your doctor if you do not feel better or if you are feeling worse during treatment with Aciphex.
Keep the medication at room temperature protected from heat and moisture.
What side effects can Aciphex (Rabeprazole) cause?
Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms of allergy: trouble breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.Aciphex (Rabeprazole) may also cause less serious side effects:
- a rash or itching;
- insomnia or nervousness;
- upset stomach or diarrhea; or
Aciphex (Rabeprazole) may also cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you need information about them.
